Earth Observation
Earth observation is an interdisciplinary research field involving fieldwork, remote monitoring and computer analysis to solve major science and engineering questions of our time, such as climate change, natural hazards and evolution of the Earth's oceans and land surface. Earth observation is essential for developing a sustainable and environmentally and economically viable future for the Earth.
Areas of Study:
- Monitoring and study of the Earth System
- Technologies and methodologies of Earth Observation Systems
- Observations of the land surface, solid Earth, oceans, atmosphere, cryosphere, and biosphere
- Global change, including hazard, disaster, sea-level and environmental monitoring
- Geodesy and geodynamics, satellite potential field
- Applications of dedicated gravity satellite missions, vertical datum and spatial and temporal geoid modeling
- Satellite radar and laser altimetry, and other remote sensing, such as InSAR and Lidar.
